Attack Of The Indian Hairy Spider New Species Bites Victims!

Updated on April 11, 2013

How do you feel about a spider that not only leaps at you but hangs on while pumping poison through your veins? Yes sounds like the stuff of nightmares or a second rate horror movie. The only trouble is, this isn't a nightmare, in fact its very true.

I always wondered why everybody round the World hated spiders, even those nasty little tegenaria spiders that scoot across my floor trying to make it to the corner. Their legs going a hundred miles an hour, straight into the tiny hole that's conveniently there. How do they know?

Anyway, its seems that the reason why we hate the nasty little critters is that they are dangerous! Yes I know, I am telling you something you already know. Spiders can kill you, common fact.

But these spiders are different. The sweet little darlings watch you walking towards them and then they launch an attack that spider man would be proud of! Evidently the spiders fangs are something to be seen. So what's the story?

Where In India Is Sadiya?

Sadiya in India, is a small town based in the Tinsukia district of North eastern India. This is also known as the State of Assam. It is surrounded by the Himalayan mountains on the bank of the Brahmaputra river.

Sadiya Spider Attack

Back in May of this year, the 8th to be precise, Sadiya in India was celebrating a local festival when all of a sudden, out of nowhere they were suddenly inundated by hundreds of spiders coming at them from all directions! Can I hear you say yuck?

Evidently the swarm, yes a swarm, appeared suddenly and started to cause mayhem, biting everybody that came into contact with them. There was such a panic, that the festival goers actually fell over themselves, each other, and a few benches trying to get away from them!

But was that the end of the spider attack? Oh no, not that easy I'm afraid! The spiders, supposedly the size of a mans thumb, and possibly related to the Tarantula, decided in their wisdom to turn into the Borg, and on mass keep attacking the village every night!

Following the eight legged freaky spider attacks, two people have died. Now this is where it starts getting a bit confusing. Evidently, the bite causes the recipient to swell up, and in their panic the victim had gone to the local witch doctor who used a razor or some other sharp instrument, and cut out the poison. The person, or persons then died. Most scientists believe that the cause of death was probably the septicemia caused by the witch doctors knife. But at this point they can't be sure.

Official sources now say that the spiders are now showing up south of the Brahmaputra too!

Killer Spiders? Maybe.

Scientists arrived from Dibrugh and Gauhati University on the 22nd May, and got straight into studying the eight legged freaky things. So far they haven't been able to identify the spiders. In fact its said that its probably a whole new species of spider. Whoopie da, can't wait to meet them!

They are said to be highly aggressive, and actually attack people without provocation. In other words you are just walking around cleaning your house, eating your lunch and then Wham! Got you by the throat! Never did like that Alien film!

How Do The Spiders Attack?

  • They leap at anything that gets too close to them.
  • After sinking their fangs into the skin, they hang on for dear life! And this was after biting!
  • The fangs are really strong and powerful! Yep can't wait to meet it!
  • The spider is the size of a mans thumb. So its not that big but very strong!

What Are They?

  • Scientists say they could be the Tarantula family or:
  • A black wishbone or:
  • Funnel web spider.

So Where Do They Come From?

Evidently at this point in time, the scientists don't believe the spiders come from India! So, by that assumption I presume they mean they have either come in over the border from another country, or maybe, and this is just guesswork on my part, they probably come from the mountain regions of their country. And for some reason they came down to escape a flood or some other natural disaster.

Or maybe they ate all the wildlife! (I can hear Jaws music in the background here!)

Its not the first time this has happened. Evidently recently Australia have had an attack of the spider variety, as have Pakistan too.

So far scientists believe that the actual deaths were caused by the witch doctor by mistake. But saying that, Jintu Gogoi, a local man who was actually bitten by the creepy spider from hell said that he was still suffering pain and nausea weeks later, and his fingers were still black and swollen.

Doctors haven't yet given out an antidote for two reasons, one being that the spiders have not proved to be deadly, and two they still don't know what species the spiders belong too.

Night Time Vigil

According to various sources, its said that the Indian villagers are still being attacked nightly by these creepy spiders. Its also said that the villagers have a nightly vigil where one of them keeps awake to make sure that their family won't get bitten in the night. Got the creeps yet? Yep, thought so!

Early reports stated that maybe it was all hokum, caused by mass panic, over indulgence in the festival, a snake bite, and two spider bites that were not harmful, and just over reaction. Since then a couple of reports say, well, no, that's not true.

So, at the end of the day, we will have to wait and see what the results are. I personally believe that the spiders are real, big hairy yuckers who latch onto the skin and sink their great big fangs into your face.

Please don't have nightmares!
