Dream:ON New iPhone App Choose What You Want To Dream And Stop Those Nightmares
Sweet Dreams App New Technology
Dreaming is going hi tech. Up until now, when you went to bed it was a case of fingers crossed and hope you don't get nightmares. Well, that's over now. Would you believe it? There is a new iPhone app that is going to help you dream the sweetest dreams. Scientists have come up with the idea that by playing subliminal sounds, it will infiltrate your sleeping mind and take you wherever you want to go while you are asleep. The Dream:ON iPhone app produces a soundscape that can help to re-tune your dreams into something calm and peaceful, therefore letting your mind rest as it should, and not be inundated by horrible nightmares or scary thoughts.
This may sound like a bit of fun, but it does have serious scientific backing. They hope to try to elliminate sleeping disorders or even depression. It's stated that people who have horrible dreams, even if they can't remember them in the morning, will actually behave in the way that the dream has taken them. For example say someone dreams about being attacked or followed, when they wake up they will feel jittery or scared for no reason. The Dream:On iPhone app hopes to reprogram the clutter that we have floating around in our sleep.
Professor Richard Wiseman
Professor Richard Wiseman is a Hertfordshire university Psychologist, who helped to develop the new app. He hopes that by collecting data from thousands of Dream:On users, he will be able to see how easy it is to influence people's dreams.
The app doesn't only use music, you will be able to choose between a cross section of sounds which include, rural settings, street scenes, and adventures such as Space travel!
The Dream:On app is available now, and is free to download on the iPhone.
So How Does It Work?
When the User goes to bed, he or she will decide what time to wake and then selects the dream that they want to have. Now we get to the hi tech part. Placing the iPhone on their pillow as close to their head as possible, the iPhone will be able to detect when the person is sleeping by using a motion sensor. Clever eh?
After falling asleep, the User will go through the usual dream cycles, such as Deep and Light stages. In these cycles we move around, and at this stage the phone will stay silent. It is only when we get to REM sleep and the body stays still, will the iPhone start to work.
REM sleep is the deepest of our dream states, and usually occurs just before its time to wake up. This is when the Dream:ON iPhone app starts to play the soundscape.
When the dreamer has nearly finished their REM sleep, the app will know, and will wake up the User just before the end of the cycle so that they will remember the dream. This is where the Professor will be able to check the results to see if it genuinely does work.
Dream:ON iPhone App What Do You Think?
Evidently, apart from the sounds of the City, rural, Space and just about anything else that will make you have a great nights sleep, you will also be able to download the voices of Celebs, Actors and even Barrack Obama! Not sure what he will talk about, but its an idea isn't it? My mind is boggling at the thought of being able to dream about Brad Pitt for example without feeling guilty!
In one sense, this idea isn't really a new one. For many years Psychologists have been telling us to play subliminal music at bedtime to make our dreams a sweeter experience. And before that, there was the idea of looking at lovely pictures before you go to sleep, such as a beach, woodlands and animals, and even photos of our children.
The only difference this time, is that it is run by Technology. So what do you think? Would you like to try the Dream:ON iPhone App? I know I would. If only to see if really does help depression, and stop sleep disturbances. I look forward to seeing the results with interest.
