How To Make Money in One Day - a few ideas if you are desperate
86
Make Money in One Day
In these times of hardship, with jobs being lost and everything going up in price, there is always a few days in the month when you get to the stage of being completely broke. You start to panic and think, what on earth am I going to do? I know, I have had many days like this. Especially if, like me, you have been in a really good job, with a monthly pay check, then all of a sudden you are made redundant. There is always welfare where you can claim a few dollars, but that never ever seems to last longer than a few days. What with electricity bills and telephone, food and gas prices, we can get caught up in the struggle and feel nothing but despair. You can even get to the stage where you think that maybe it is a good idea not to get out of bed in the morning because you haven't got enough money to buy food for the day. Hopefully these ideas that I have tried and tested will give you some idea on How To make Money in One Day.
I am not saying it is easy. In fact you will have to live on your wits. But there is always somewhere in your town that you should be able to do the things that will bring in enough money to feed you or get gas for your car. Whatever it is that you desperately need. I had to do this recently and luckily it worked!
Go through your cupboards and drawers
First of all, think about what you can sell quickly. Nearly everybody will have something that they can make a few dollars with. Over the years you will have accumulated rings and bracelets, little bits of jewelry that are either gold, silver or a mixture of the two. It doesn't matter if the object in question has only a small piece of gold or silver. Break it apart and collect up the metal. Most towns or Cities have a Jewelry shop that will buy your gold and silver. I did this last week, with a ring that never fitted me in the first place! In fact I forgot that I had it. It was gold. At this point you have to decide whether the ring that cost a couple of hundred dollars is worth giving up for scrap. If you are desperate then fine, you should earn at least thirty dollars for it. It all depends on the weight. Silver is quite good, but you will need quite a bit more of it to make any money. Even ten dollars is enough if you are hungry or desperate for something that you need.
Scrap Metal. Copper Aluminium etc.
As I explained in my hub about scrap metal, there is always a way to earn quick money by scrapping copper or aluminium. Just strip the metal, and take it to the nearest scrap dealer. A good idea is to always collect old pieces of wire, so if you need money you can burn away the plastic coating and get the copper out. And never throw away any metal pieces, keep old tools and broken washing machine parts in your garage. You never know when they will come in handy.
Garden Sale
If you are aware of the fact that you are going to be a bit short of money, plan a garden sale. All you need to do is set out a table by your front gate, and pile it with old books, clothes and ornaments. you can sell this way as long as it is on your own property. Be aware though that if you set up your table outside of your garden you will probably need a licence to sell. So make sure you are within your own boundaries. I live in a rich town, unfortunately! Everything is so expensive. But even here, the residents do this occasionally. It seems to be a popular pastime! I have often walked past a house with a table set out with personal goods and a sign saying, 'Please leave money in the tin'! I am not sure I would leave it to chance though! Get yourself a chair and a book and just wait for customers, everybody loves a bargain.
Barter
This idea takes a bit of extra confidence on your part. Obviously this will be a bit more difficult if you don't get on with your neighbors, or you live quite a way from the nearest house. But most of us do have neighbors that we talk to, or visit occasionally. look for something appropriate. For example, if you know your neighbor has just bought a shed, or started work on their garden. Search for any garden tools that you don't want or need, and go and knock on their door. Explain your problem, you need sugar or bread, money for the car etc, and would they be prepared to swap for the garden tools? Now, I know this sounds strange and completely out of character, but believe me, it does work! I live on an estate and we all seem to do this. If I run out of sugar, I asked the neighbour next door, and at the same time offer something in return. It doesn't have to be an object that you give. You could offer to take the dog out, or help with their decorating. Get the idea?
Tarot or Card Readings
This may sound a bit 'out there' but hear me out. I have been doing Tarot, Angel, and Psy Card readings since I was a teenager. I combine the readings with psychology, and before a reading I tell the client that I have no idea where the information comes from, I don't claim to be in touch with great Aunt Sally, who passed over in the 14th century at the time of the plague! Hum! I tell them that we all have a certain type of psychic ability, some call it intuition, and this is what I use. I trained to be a psychologist, in fact I only had one more course to do and I would have been a counselor, so as you can see I am qualified. I find that it helps the person to whom I am doing the reading, because by reading the cards they tend to open up and confront any demons or phobias that they have. My point is, if you learn to do the Cards, then you can make money, even if it is not regularly. Someone always wants their cards read!
Conclusion
There are various ways of earning a quick buck if you put your mind to it. But it does take determination and confidence. The one bit of advice I will leave you with is this. Whatever you do to try and make some money quickly, always remember not to look desperate! Make up a good excuse. For example, you need the money for your holiday pot. Or you are travelling the next day, and need some extra cash, but it's not that important. If people think you are desperate they will try and con you. I know it's not nice, but it is a fact, I am afraid. I know the saying How To Make Money in One Day sounds like a pie in the sky dream, but believe me, it is possible. I always say, before I go out on one of these ventures, 'Hold onto your dignity, and your purse will look after itself!' Good Luck.

I am a firm believer that people will rip you off if they think they can. I once had 2 stool chairs I was selling each one for $10 dollars, they were in mint condition, the lady that bought paid $5 for both.
I realized what she did and didn't say anything. I know I should've but if she was so pitiful and disgusting in her behavior so be it. She was older and took advantage of someone who could've been her daughter.
I have no use for people like that but I will never do business with them again and lose the respect I once had.
Some very good ideas there.
Cheers Nell, and Happy selling!
Some interesting tips for these hard times, Nell. Another good way of selling stuff is on Ebay and Gumtree, especially if you have old dresses, handbags etc to sell
Great hub Nell. I also know what it is like to go from a fantastic pay check to zero following redundancy, and as you say it is not easy to juggle all the bills with the little welfare benefit you receive, but there are other options as you listed in your hub.
I love the idea of the tarot cards. Might see if I can tap into a few relatives who can give me the numbers of the lotto this weekend!

The success of tarot reading took me by surprise. I had these amazing cards years ago -don't even know where I got them from.
It was done for fun. When friends came over I'd offer to do it - and they became obsessed and brought friends and then I got invitations to homes to read cards - it quickly got out of hand. I did not want to do this for more than just a few friends so I gave it up. It became overwhelming.
But you are right, although I didn't charge, people were lining up - it never occurred to me to charge because I only wanted to do it for a few friends and have fun with them. I was also very much into astrology (now lunar astrology as well) and all that played a major role.
By the way the men became even more obsessed than women.
Great tips. And rated up!
I love your get up and go attitude! Well done Nell
Great hub. Very simple and necessary things explained articulately. keep writing. Voted up
Hi Nell, I like this. I think I'll try the Tarot readings for I already sold all my gold jewelry!
Thanks
Nell, you are so funny. The things you come up with.
When I saw (garden sale). I expected it to be for flowers or veggie plants. So when I looked at the picture next to it I was confused. lol
Here we call it a (yard sale).
Good to see you again
As for me, I will not be able to be on as much. Gardening season has started. So I will be busy outdoors
I may do a hub page on my garden just so you all can see why it takes so much of my time, then maybe I will be forgiven for not being in touch
Tina
I think your ideas are great and something I should get cracking about, if only to make few bob is better than nothing.
Hi Nell as resourceful as ever, a Brit with true grit. Thanks for sharing these useful tips.Best wishes to you.
I had actually thought about selling my body... but I have so much fun I forget to charge !
Might try EBay... next, let's face it if some idiot paid £81,000 for a stoopid hat there has to be hope for me right ?
RIGHT ???
You have some great ideas to earn money but most importantly you have the confidence to know you can find a way to survive. Your attitude is one of strength to be admired. Rated up.
Hi Nell, You amaze me!! I want a card reading, can you do it long distance? I love to go to yard sales. I've found some real treasures. Thank you for the tips.
Cheers
Great ideas, Nells - I think I'll leave Bob to go through his drawers though as I think he has more in them...ha ha - you could add baking up some breads or cookies. I keep telling Bob to go out and put a card table at the curb and sell my leftovers - geez - I imagine they would go to good use! Seriously, great ideas in troubled times.
Great hub! I recycle a lot! I've heard a lot of what I recycle can be sold! (Interesting about newspapers!) Maybe just pennies--but if I can get enough of them for even a half-gallon of gas, a half-gal of milk, or a loaf of bread, it's worth it! Been thinking about it, and your hub's given me the right push. Thnx, Nell!
Very inspiring hub, Nell. I had sold my old newspaper this morning and got a few dollars. Thanks for share these wonderful ideas. Never underestimate your old things. This brought you some money. Rated up as usual. Have a nice weekend!
Prasetio
i am not sure about the tarot readings- how about babysitting in exchange for a hot dinner and a take home bag for tomorrow night?
thanks for the tips, I know a few people who deal in scrap metals in my area.
Hey, all you people selling old newspapers -- where do you look? All I see is metal! And, Nell, girlfriend, I didn't say anything about the tarot readings, but I'd have to forego that one myself. But love this hub--think almost all of us need it, and if somebody doesn't yet, they will at some point!
Being without money is surely the worse crisis to deal with. But somehow we always get our daily bread. While writing this, my memory haunts me with pictures of children and adults who died some years ago of hunger somewhere in Africa. Nell, thanks for the tips, although I pray never to be in a situation where I have to follow them.
these are good ideas, but one should realize that it takes much more aluminum than one would think in order to get a decent profit share from when one scraps in old metal. My husband and I both recycle tin and aluminum. When we go in to the scrap yard, we may only get $40 or $50 at a time. The one thing that we have noticed is that the price of metal fluctuates with what is currently going on with the market for metal.
Hello sweetpea! Yes, I think I'm that desperate! hope you are welll, lily
I feel for anyone that's without money. When living in Italy one time my decision was to eat or to ride the bus, guess what won.
Jewellerys all sold, so I think Ill give the tarot readings a go!! :)
I have a friend who started reading tarot for fun. Now it is her full-time professional. She does quite well.
up/very useful
Thanks for starting dialogue and opening the door. So many of us are in the same situation.
OMGosh, Nell, thank you so much for this Hub, it is great! I often need to find ways of earning extra money and never once thought about doing Tarot readings. I used to read Tarot cards years ago, but only for myself or a few close friends. Somehow, over the years I lost my book and deck. I put two that you recommended on my wish list at Amazon so I can get them next payday. Thank you! I also have a Runes set, book and tiles. Maybe I should start doing readings with these also. Voted Up and Useful.
Great ideas and tips. These days we all need every bit of help we can get.
Good ideas. In these days I am always looking for new ways to make money.
Wonderful hub. I enjoyed it. I always have garage sales, and love them. God Bless You.
The title absolutely got me to read the hub. Truly informative. You might keep a few more readers if you broke up those long paragraphs into shorter ones. Thanks.
Garage sales are nice you can also learn palmistry, numerology and handwriting analysis. This will help you as well.Try handicrafts as well. There are many small items you can build such as rag dolls and embroidery. http://www.micocrane.com/
Great hub with lots of good ideas. I have never heard of being able to cash in newspapers as the comments have said. I,m trying to get visions from tarot cards but need some more practice.
Very interesting hub, thanks for the information. Yes I too had a very good job and was made redundant unexpectanly. Good ideas here for making instant cash when needed.
This hub is very catchy from the title until the end of the article. Great Information. Thanks!
Good ideas, Nell, for those in need in these unsettled times that can impact us all. When my folks first moved to their retirement condo Florida several years ag, they didn't know what to do with all of the things they couldn't take with them. I suggested a garage-yard sale. My dad was horrified, at first. However, when they made $2,000+ from the proceeds (they donated quite a bit as well), he quickly became a convert.
Items that sold quickly: Gardening tools and equipment; Christmas decorations; fishing gear.
Excellent hub, Nell!
Very useful information. I have actually done several of these things in recent years. It's amazing what you can find around the house when you're desperate!
You are certainly popular. Thanks for your great tips because I am not broke I am broke broke broke. Brother that money whoever invented it I'll him/her. Take care. How do you learn to do Tarot cards? It had been itching me for a long time. Funny, I always had that feeling you can read tarot cards. I must have a contact with aunt Sally. lol
Some really creative ideas. Good job!
Great hub, I certainly know that in times of need one cannot acquire money fast enough, waiting for the check to come next week just won't do, thanks for your advice and tools...just might use them someday, thanks again, and wonderful hub,
MM
Good idea
inspiring hub, look at around us... we sometimes never notice that the stuff we consider nothing can be useful to others and make money to us
nell-- I love these ideas, and the last one was a bit of a thinker-- as in a had to read it twice tarot reading--- it is a way to make money... how true, best way?? (he he--) give it 100% all teh time, and good thing willc ome your way =) Great job as always.
The tarot and card reading part sounds like scam, but the rest is really fine :) Some good tips :P
Great tips in this wobbly economy!
Some great ideas, thank you for sharing them.
"T make money in one day a few ideas if you are desperate".
The hub merits to be listed amongst the great hubs which is based on knowledge and experience by a person who has full sympathy with those who can come across with a similar situation gone through by the great Huber. It contains all the principles of economics and every bit of its tips are full of wisdom. The courage, the fortitude, the reliance on one's own of dealing the situation, the manner to take various steps are all self speaking of the intellectual sobriety of the writer. May God bless the Huber with affluence and desperateness never come again. And may those in actual distress or deprivation come out of it by applying the various methods told by the Huber.
You listed some very good ideas. I will be sure to try this next time I need to.
Some great ideas here for quick ways to raise cash. A super hub. Voted up and useful. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for yur tips. As somebody said it is a scam and I agree there most of them are scams but so farI had two perfect tarot cards readers and I swear by it. If somebody knows what they are doing it can be done. I never forget a lady reading cards to my mother in 1945. It was a very desperate time and my mother had foudn comfort from it. That lady said that New York will disindicrate in a dust cloud and over the years I kept talking about it. When that world Centre disindicrated in a dust cloud I nearly fell of the settee. I mean it. Then she said American and Russia will lose their power after that and there will many little wars but not affected my country. After that there will be a power coming, and she pulled a face, which is not very good. She never said which one. Another lady in France told me ll my life ahead, I was 22, and it came true every bit of it. She never told me how it is going to end which I am dying to know now because so many things are depenting on it. Would you being able and willing to tell me and let me know how much you charge?
Hi Nell, such a great hub. I have lived in Leicester for the past 3 years but am originally from Scotland. I watched a tv documentary once about a Scottish couple who paid for their entire wedding by recycling aluminium cans for 2 years, collecting them from friends, neighbours and relatives!
A garden sale must be similar to what we call a garage sale or yard sale here in the US - I like the sound of Garden Sale better :)
Great advice, Nell. Maybe I should do it. Thank you
Great hub Nell.
Thank you for sharing and here's to many more hubs to share.
Take care
Eidddwen.
I have recycled my empty plastic water bottles for cash which can really come in handy
Good ideas! I like the tarot reading idea. When times get hard - like now - people look for solace and guidance.
Such wonderful ideas....which can get others to think more creatively. Actually, I do know that like we used to do with tupperware, you can now host a gold party, inviting all your friends to bring their unused and broken gold accessories. An Evaluator comes from one of those companies that buy gold, and they evaluate and pay for the gold on site. The person who hosts the party also gets a percentage off the total sale. Can't remember all the details but with a little research, anyone should be able to find it.
I lived next door to a man who made his rent by collecting scrap metal. Nice man. I sold some old jewelry to eke out my student loan a couple of times :D
Excellent article! Very well written and extremely accurate. I have been unable to get back into my Hub pages until today. But now I'm back and the problems solved.
Cracking hub. Have tried and tested each and one of your methods. On numerous occasions i have loaded car and headed to car boot sale, and it worked. Also, how keen are you on Angle readings, my wife has been using angle cards in the past. She got very ill a number of years ago and developed a huge interest.
Great money saving ideas. A really useful hub these days
Wonderful tips Nell...I've been reading Tarot cards for years, mostly for my own amusement, but I've always been good at it. I'd love to do it on the side professionally, but I'd have to gain some real credibility first. I guess I've got a new assignment :) Cheers!
Very useful, especially in these times of economical hardship. Thanks for sharing. I will be following you and I will be looking forward to reading more of your work.
I'm going to forward article to my daughter who is always looking for money...She does the metal thing but your other ideas will interest her. thanks
Hi there! You forgot to mention selling your blood or plasma for cash. Instantly. Also you might have old coins or foreign coins that you've had stashed somewhere. You can turn those in at a coin dealer for some cash. Gee. I have to do one of these things pretty soon myself, lol! Enjoyed your article.
I always forget about saving scrap metal for extra cash here and there. I save all my loose change around the house, pockets, and floor and go to the change machine at my credit union and then plan a trip around my pocket change. I have had some pretty cool weekend trips off change alone.
Fantastic hub! Close to home, realistic ideas. Congrats :)
Hi Nell the only idea I have not tried is the Tarot Cards, I'm not sure if I could keep a straight face :-)
We have had a number of successful 'garage sales' as we call them in Australia, they are very popular:-)
Great ideas. I need to go through all my stuff and see what I can get for it. I usually give most of my stuff to Goodwill but times are tough. I don't worry about finances too much. I believe God will provide and we tithe so that's my way to prosperity, God first then everything else will be added unto me. Great hub.
I especially liked the Tarot , card reading part . It sounds so luring . i will immediately get down to business ! Thanks
Failure is always an option
Well there´s always the affiliatemarketing? Once you get a hand of how that works properly there is no need of doing much work if you get one campagn running. It might take a few hours to get one campagn running, but once set you have the posibilities to earn alot of money and that on autopilot. Meaning there will be a residual income.
Why not try clickbank? Register - get an affiliatelink for the product you´d like to promote and put the link on the internet somewhere preferebly on a forum that is related to the product. And maybe you will have to be active on that forum for a while so that people don´t just think that you´re spamming the forum. Or put the affiliatelink in your Signature. And then watch the money roll in. If you put a little work to it. This is one way to start earning money without putting anything from your own pocket. There are lots of ways. But in order to earn money, you will have to work nontheless. :) But sometimes a few hours a week is enough =)
Nell you will have to 'frequent' more garage sales to get more stock for your own garage sales lol
btw you need to add this to your tags!
Excellent ideas. There is some money to be made in scrap metal and your very frugal and thrifty to realize.
there are a lot of good quick-cash, fundraising ideas in your hub.
Thanks for the money making tips! We can all use these from time to time. :)
nice ideas, thnx
Lord girl after that first part I got so depressed I wondered if I shouldn't get on up and start going throw the drawers, lol. Just kidding you; and although I won't sell jewelry because they always rip you off, where I live anyway, but many times my yard sale accumulation can bring in tidy sums. Call it an estate sale and the flea market people will swarm you. Made about $400 on one sale in just a couple hours and as I was putting back one of Mom's new dusters she never would wear I found $138 in a pocket...sure glad no one wanted that!
simply superb. These small ideas which we can hardly think of, were brought to the forefront of our minds...Now I can re collect a lot many things in my store room.....ready to go out in the garden..... lets see what future holds for me...thanks Nell
Great ideas!
I think you made some great points and I can see these activities earning some needed income. It’s hard out here for a lot of us and I had to take a much lower paying job recently. It pays by the hour and is only part time. It’s hard work too but I tell myself I’d rather make a little money an hour than nothing an hour. Great hub!
A very humorous yet good hub :)
A humorous and interesting hub. Thanks
Don't sell the computer or you'll be "Up the Creek!" Sell the creek!
Wow - love these ideas and tips! Great hub with outstanding pictures. These ideas of yours are really needed during these tough times, what with prices rising like a Tsunami. So good of you to share with all of us, Nell. (Oh, and my son cashed in one of his gold coins today) :)
Yes you are so right about this.I went through my garage one day and I made $175 off of stuff i was going to put on the curb.
These are all great ideas, Nell, but more importantly, it is the spirit of perseverance that shines through this advice. So sorry to hear you've had to use it in your own life. Me too. Once I sold homemade cookies at the truck stop (yikes - I could have been on that show CSI or Missing Persons), gave perms to people I barely knew - in my home, Rented a booth and sold stuff at Flea Markets etcetera; all these activites require caution. Good hub.
Nice ideas and a well setted out hub.
Great stuff hun has anybody tried textbroker, com also I have already completed 2 assigmrnts and made 20 bux already same say as syfned up
cool piece-!

Tarot readings are great for making money. I forget who asked, but yes, they can be done long-distance. I had a reading over the phone once, by a pro, and she did a great, if very costly, job. I have done over-the-phone, and over-the-net too.
Other suggestions for making money--antique stores and flea markets. Take any antiques you might have to a reputable dealer, and see if there's any money to be made with them. Flea markets are also great places to sell things, because they are often more populated than yard sales.
And for those of you who have never heard of it or used it--Craigslist (craigslist.com) is a great place to sell, barter, buy, or even find a temporary or permanent job.
Good luck, and have fun with it. It's a very useful site.
You have written a great post!
The tips are great, and also very practical. Tarot and card reading takes time. It takes years to gain experience to predict.
Love your ideas! I happen to use a lot of these ideas already. I love reading cards, although I have never charged anyone to read them. That's a thought.
Great ideas, don't know about the tarot cards though..
Good tips!!I liked your ideas.so,there are many ways to earn money, but one needs to be desperate.
Hello, another tip for making money is to go to your local library. Often libraries will sell old books for a few cents. Look for books in a better condition, with dust covers and reasonably clean. Good well known authers are best , look for people such as James Patterson or John Grisham. Some libraries may even have first editions on sale as part of their discard process.
The books will have library marks, barcodes and stamps etc so are not going to get top prices from collectors but a collector may be willing to pay several dollars for a book with library marks if it is complete with no damage. Then sell this on E-Bay or some such site.
Also libraries may offer several books in a box, you take a chance but if you pay about $1 for a box of maybe ten books you stand a chance of maybe selling them for a profit at a flea market.
Childrens books are also good oprions for buying and selling at flea markets.
Not only do you make money but the money you spend on the books goes to the library to buy new books.
i just might try that
all you hubbers out there try this
why to your library
very nice explanation about online earning........!
good work
I need all the help I can get these days! Thanks for your money making ideas!
When you said if you're desperate I expected the worst.
Under your section "Scrap Metal. Copper Aluminium etc." - Can you tell me which metals you recommend, I know copper is a good one, but that is all I know.
All methods are good
cheers...tarot cards, huh? I'll have to give that one a try. My mother is the psychic of the family, however.
Thank you Neil Rose for sharing these innovative ways to make money in a day. I have voted this hub as interesting.
These are interesting ideas, and some may work very well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for an excellent hub. One can never hear too many ideas of how to make money fast.
Excellent article on making money.
Good ways to get rid of your old junk too and get some moe space in the house. :)
Thx for the hub!
These are great and useful tips especially if one is really in need of money. Thanks for sharing.
Very informative and good one. We need to clean our closets and make money at the same time.
Well, I do E-mail processing mainly. The first 24h gave me $125. Thats a pretty good number. Concidering I didn´t do much at all.
But I guess that all depends on how much effort you want to put in. We all know that money doesent fall into your pocket from doing nothing.
Great ideas Nell. I've alreasy tried a couple of them.
Great ideas. Thank you.
very good ideas! signed broken
Never thought about scrap metal? Good advice
I need to check my loft now. http://moneyonlinez.com

Hi Nell Rose, this Hub is a related Hub to mine that I just did on renting out your stuff to make money. I enjoyed this one; you have some good ideas. I just started renting out stuff that I don't use often. Read mine when you have the time. Goodnight
I wish i could do that. Hopefully i will try out when it will be needed.
great hub. Interesting ideas
Excellent set of ideas Nell. When in a tight spot any idea is worth its weight in gold.
We have people coming to collect scrap from homes here almost daily - used plastic bottle, cans, newspapers, cardboard boxes, metal - you name it, they buy it.
Voted up and all the way across.
I enjoy every hub written by you, all interesting and full of information. Thanks !
Hey, Nell --- great Hub, as always.

Those are useful tips. Selling old/scrap newspaper also works for instant money in my place.
