Past Regression - Jenny Cockell- The True story of a Woman Who has Lived Before. Mother of yesterday's Children
95Jenny Cockell
Jenny Cockell was just an ordinary Northamptonshire housewife. She was also a mother of two children, But there was nothing ordinary about her. Over the next few years, she not only believed that she had lived before, as an Irish woman called Mary Sutton who was born in 1897, but she 'found' her children still living in Ireland.
Her story starts just before her fourth birthday. She began to remember her past life in small snatches and pictures, and for a long time she never mentioned it to anybody because she believed that everybody had the same feelings and experiences. The most vivid of the memories was a very disturbing one. She dreamt of her own death. Or should I say Mary's death. She was also aware that Mary had been 35 years old and had just given birth to her eighth child. She could 'see' the hospital where it was happening, and she felt very strong feelings of guild and sorrow that she was leaving her children.
The feelings never left her, and, after experiencing these memories for some time, she suddenly decided to draw a map where she believed these strange things had happened. She just knew that it was in Ireland, she was quoted as saying, ' I just felt so sad that I had left them, I realised then that I had to go back, so I got out a map, and I instinctively kept pointing to Ireland. After a while I was drawn to a place called Malahide. I just knew this was my home town'.
But life got in the way, and she was still only a child. It was a few years later when Jenny got married and had her own children, that the feelings and memories surfaced again. Only this time they were stronger. So she started to think about tracking down Mary's family in Ireland.
Mary Sutton and child
Rotundra Hospital Where Mary died
Beginning to Believe
Jenny stated that if she were to trace the family, she wanted to make sure she did it right. No mistakes and not the smallest doubt. It had to be the right house, the right family, and even more importantly, get the names dates and children's names correct. So she consulted a hypnotist who dealt with regression therapy. The funny thing was, that Jenny was very much a sceptic, she didn't really believe iin anything like reincarnation or any other type of psychic phenomena. That I think, Is what makes this story so incredible. She felt uncomfortable with the whole story, and was afraid she was going to make a fool of herself. So after undergoing regression, and realising that this was not going to go away, she decided to make the trip to Ireland.
Still consulting her maps that she had drawn, she took out a map of Ireland and studied in detail a real map of Malahide. To her surprise, she realised that it was very similar to the one she had drawn from memory. This gave her the final push to undertake the journey back in time, to see if she could understand, and find, the home and family that she had 'left' many years before.
She arrived in Malahide, which is north of Dublin, and decided the best course of action would be to check out any records she could find in the church records.
The records showed that there had been a Mary Sutton who had lived and died in Malahide, and her eight children had been left to various relatives, and some had been placed in orphanages. She decided that if she was going to do this properly she would get in touch with the local newspapers, and also write letters to all the churches, to find out as much as she could. By this time, any sort of embarrassment or doubt was quickly beginning to disappear. She knew in a way that nobody else could understand, that this was real.
With the help of letters to foster homes and the historical societies, she realised that if this didn't work, nothing would.
Much to her surprise and relief, she located the surviving children. Before she met the children, she subjected herself to questioning by a BBC researcher to make sure that the dreams and memories that she had been having, would match up to the facts by the surviving members of the Irish family.
Jenny told the researcher facts about the family home, the kind of sewing thread that Mary had used, even small things like when the children had caught a live hare in a trap.
Eventually after her interview, she came face to face with Sonny, Mary's son, for the first time.

Reunited
In 1990, Sonny Sutton picked up the phone, and listened to the most amazing story he had ever heard, and when he at last put the phone down, his wife said, 'You look like you have seen a ghost', Sonny turned to her, and as white as a sheet said, 'I've been talking to my Mother'.
The rest of Mary's family were not so easily convinced. Who was this Jenny? What was her purpose in doing this to the family? They just could not believe such a thing. The family had been brought up as Catholics, and in complete bewilderment, Phyllis Clinton, Mary's daughter, consulted her priest, who told her that, after hearing the evidence, the only thing he could think of was that somehow, Mary was speaking through Jenny, as a way to get the family back together. Christy, 72, Frank, 70, Phyllis who was 71, Betty Keogh, 62, and their brother Jeffrey James, who died in 1992 aged 66, were very unsettled by all of this.
'She knew the pictures on the wall, what was in the house, how it was built, it is unbelievable' said Phyllis. 'I still find it hard to believe, even though I know she is telling the truth' she goes on to say,' mammy passed her soul over to this unborn person'.
There was a 21 year gap between the year Mary died and Jenny was born. And this is very unusual in the fact that the children could be found and the story corroborated.
Jenny is a member of Mensa and is a very down to earth person. She insisted that anything that she could not remember, should not be added to the story. It had to be only the things she could prove.
This is a very fascinating story in the fact that an average everyday woman, born into a normal household grew up with the knowledge that, to her, it was normal to remember past lives. And even more important isn't whether you believe her or not, the fact is that, after Mary's death, her children were separated and lost contact with each other for nearly 60 years. Jenny Cockell did a remarkable thing. She reunited a lost family, and on that day in a Dublin home belonging to Betty, they came together and shared tears and memories, vowing never to be apart again.
If there is anything that we can take from this story is that, whether we believe in reincarnation, or not. something extraordinary happened. So the next time you dream a dream, or have a memory that is strange to you, maybe you should listen to your thoughts, because there could be someone out there that is remembering you.

I remember reading this story in a compilation and watching a program on television that discussed it as well. It definitely makes you wonder... and unless all these people participated in a lie, this was either the strangest coincidence or proof of past lives. *Cue the expressive music* ;)
I do believe in reincarnation as we are reborn again and again after death. We can do past life regression to tell us the life before this present life. I also believe in Karma and Merits. What you do in action will result a reaction. So, if you do good deed, you will be rewarded with merits.
The usual problem when testing reincarnation is that people "remember" having lived in the middle age or similar. This is not the case, as there were records of her previous life. Very interesting Nell, it could be quite interesting also to know the explanations of those who do not believe her; how to they explain this? Up to now I haven't studied hypnosis for past life regression, but this story seems to prove the reality of reincarnation. Even from a skeptic point of view which I usually have.
And it's also well written. :) Well done.
That is truly amazing and I thank you so much to give me the chance to read it.
Hi Nell, I've read Jenny Cockell's story myself in 'Yesterday's Children', and it is a fascinating tale. Perhaps many of us have memories of earlier existences that we suppress or dismiss as imagination.
Teachings teach us differently, but as teachings are, they teach so differently. Thanks
Excellent story and amazing. I have heard of similar things and it boggles the mind. We are infants in our development and things like this maybe common, it is just that we don't understand it or know how to interpret them. One day we may develop ourselves enough where this will be the norm and not an odditie. Great job!
FASCINATING HUB NELL. ALTHOUGH NO ONE CAN PROVE THESE STRANGE AND COMPELLING EVENTS NO ONE THAT I KNOW OF CAN DISPROVE THEM EITHER. THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT AND SOMEWHT CONTROVERSIAL HUB.
I have heard of many incidents with children like this over the years and I do believe the Bible teaches it is true saying John the Baptist was Elijah if we would accept it. I concluded it was because Elijah went to heaven without dying..but will this lady have to die twice? We are only appointed once to die. A real mystery for sure, great hub.
Great article. I found it to be intriguing. It gave me an Erie feeling, but made me think.
It's a strange but fascinating story!
Wow this is an interesting and strange story. It was even kind of creepy, but I love creepy stories. I love reading your hubs because I feel like I am being told a good story because you tell it so well so I always get really comfortable and enjoy, thanks again for a great read.
Fabulous, fascinating and inspiring hub on a subject I firmly believe in, based on so much evidence (like this) that is out there. Thanks so much for publishing it here Nell :)
Congratulations for being in Topics page. Well deserved. :)
Inexplicable Hub!!!!!!
The story is superb. The reader cannot escape even a single sentence, as each and every sentence is connected with each other like, web. The concept of reincarnation is very much worth to read. I do believe in life after death. Thanks a lot for giving so much enjoyment and fun.
I've always been utterly fascinated by the concept of reincarnation. Life is such a wonderful thing, and I enjoy the very challenge of it all. I know a lot of people say living is hell. I'd love to come back and do it again, and again, and again. If Jenny's story is true, she is lucky to know who she was.
It's a very interesting story Nell.
Keep hubbing!
wow, fantastic! I dont mind meeting my great-grandma!
wow it is hard to believe but I guess anything is possible. Thanks for a great read Nell.
Great article, I will try to interact with my readers more often from now on just like you do.
Nell, this is a wonderful story, and you have done a fine job in the telling of it. I like your style - deceptively simple, clean, and well-researched! Thanks so much for this lovely tale.
Hello my friend Nell! How did I miss this great hub?? This story was amazing and went a lot on the conversation we had weeks ago! Awesome story and you told it perfectly! Wowzie!!!! Nothing about God's world is suprising is it? Not to me! Great Hub...rated up!
nice story
I wish I really had a good grasp of this fascinating subject.
I hope to explore the current literature. Thanks for the input.
Hi, very nice to find someone that supports something I have believed for most of my life, from my inner senses, and reading of those like Mary Cockell, like Pattons, proclaiming the same. You might like my Inner sense Hub.
Well Written and smooth, I'm struggling to do as well.
Great read; thank you.
This is really, really good!!! This would make for a good book and a good movie--Think about it!!!
This is freaky! I've read similar accounts where people could fluently speak languages they'd never heard. I like your writing style, too!
Really cool hub Nell! I believe we are all connected directly to our recent and ancient bloodlines. Some of us can reach back with our minds and see the lives of the others.
I love reading stuff like this! Thanks! :)
Fascinating story - thanks for putting it so well.
Love and peace
Tony
Mmmm, when reading a story such as this, I always realize there are places in my mind I cannot reach.
if we beleive in reincarnation then what about increase in population?
Nell,
What an amazing story, I enjoyed it. Get's you thinking doesn't it? Loved it, thanks again : )
Nell, another great story. I too remember seeing this on a tv. program. Thanks for the hub
Another strange and interesting story! Since Jenny was determined to get things right and make sure there were no doubts, it does make one wonder if it really was true! Thanks Nell for another great hub!
As always, a very fascinating story. Many stories about people who remember past lives have been supported by historical evidence and other studies, and others have been proven false by regression sessions. But, this story is certainly one that helps to reflect and debate seriously about the possibility of reincarnation.
Great hub!
I love this, despite what people say I believe in reincarnation, and not as a dog etc... I just think its much simpler than people push it to be and its not evil either... I have had many dreams as an old soul.... I dream things about Ancient Egypt, only to find out these dreams match what I research, I have dreams about past lives that are so real and detailed things people wouldnt think of... I also dream of the future and often those things come to pass... it makes sense why you like quantum physics.. I would like to learn more about quantum without the ego-types who make money off of it... "you can be any thing" etc and look down on all other people... I think Einstein had some great view points on it too
TIME IS AN ILLUSION.... lol
much love xoxo
I am not sure what to think, I have heard and read about such stories before and they are unusual in their details. What makes this one special is the availability of living proof.
To believe or even accept the possibility of reincarnation is one thing but to believe you are living it is very rare.
How is it that a person can clearly recall memories from another person, place and time?
Before writing this response I took a look at other research about Jenny's story and there is a lot of scepticism with much reference made to the time difference between her experiences and actually writing about it coupled to the fact that she had also under gone hypnotic regression also before the book.
Much is made of Jenny’s own acknowledgments as a day dreamer, her own statement, “My escape into the past grew as I grew, and it was like a little death in my own life, a death of part of me that replaced part of my life.” This and many other quotes from her own book are used by the sceptics as proof that Jenny fantasized as a retreat from her own unpleasant reality and the fantasy eventually took on a life of its own.
There are many sceptical references to the many gaps and contradictions in Jenny’s memories when compared with the real life and background of Mary, many things that you would expect to be unforgettable in Mary’s memory like her married n or maiden name, the street where she lived, this and many more examples are pulled from Jenny’s own written recollections.
Is this a true example of reincarnation ?
If so it doesn’t seem to be one that stands up to the challenges that true sceptics love to throw at such tales. I’m afraid that upon reflection Jenny herself makes it far too easy for them to take her story apart. The fact that she went on to make money from her books and a movie based upon her story merely compounds the sceptic’s points of doubt in her sincerity.
It therefore boils down to our personal beliefs and attitudes towards reincarnation as to whether we believe or disbelieve Jenny’s story.
My own research seems to show a natural divide between a belief in any form of afterlife or not. Those who accept that there is an afterlife, and therefore by definition there must be previous lives are more susceptible to hypnotic regression. On the other hand those who do not accept the afterlife theories tend to have no regressive reincarnations.
The fact that Jenny herself believes that all she documents is true fact is not proof, any more than the fact that through her attempts at research managed to cobble together a string of facts that seem to tie in with her dreams.
As always it’s an interesting tale and one that will be disputed for years to come.
Nell you presented the story well full of conviction and do I sense a slight hope that it may be point the way to a greater belief that such things are possible ?
Who knows for sure, maybe they are, will we remember we were here the next time around ?
According to the experts we’re not supposed to, What do they know ?
Hi Nell,
What a wonderful story and thank you for sharing it with me. Like you I haven't a clue what it means for one dream to be both backward and forward looking.
Perhaps the little boy in the dream was not your son but one of his distant relatives whose genes have been passed down through the centuries.
Like you I'm a 'Wanna Believe' sceptic, but without the scientific background. I hate it when so called experts deliberately set out to destroy things like your story simply for the lack of proof positive.
We live in our three dimensional world of forwards, backwards and upwards but we ignore the fourth dimension of Time. I am convinced that the answers we seek lies within our lack of knowledge of this dimension and our inability to understand the power of the human mind.
When we sleep it is a time when, without the interference of our conscious mind and outside distractions, our sub-conscious mind is able to roam free. What if it was during this completely relaxed state of mind the sub-conscious was able to touch the mists of time !
I hate to ever push the sale of my books, but I think you might enjoy INNER SPACE Book Two, The Reluctant Nemesis. After reading your story above I think it will send a cold shiver down your spine !
I shall say no more.
Your Hub kept me wondering if I too had a past life? Sometimes when we dream, it takes us to places that we've never been. But I believe these are the places that we've been in the past. Others don't really believe in reincarnation. But personally, I do. It may not be as strong as Jenny's but I believe one way or the other. I'd really love to go through hypnosis, regression if I had the chance.
Thanks for your Hub. I really love it.

This is an absolutely amazing story. How wonderful that it could be proved and she was able to bring together a family. I was fascinated. Thanks you for sharing. Rated up and amazing.
Nell, this story of Jenny and Mary is amazing. The reuniting of the children of Mary is beautiful and the way it all came about through Jenny is profound. The healing that came from Jenny's determination is wonderful. I have always believed in reincarnation and stories like this validate what I have always felt as truth. Thank you for this great hub.
I swear I was your follower before and I read this hub before too. I wrote one for the Christian's about Reincarnation What It Is and Is Not and what Jesus said Reincarnation (or soemthing to that effect) is from the Biblical standpoint if you would like to go read that one. I read or heard some time ago that there are only a certain amount of Souls and each Soul has many journeys. I call them lessons. I don't remember where I read or heard it though and wished that I could find that information again because it gave an account of how a soul is made. I have been looking for that for a few years now on the internet and can't seem to find it. Anyway it was very intersting and made sense to a degree. I had an experience that explains this "learning" as well and it is on hubpages. It is What I Learned When I Went Home. I like this hub much and the other hubs titles are enticing. I shall read more of them.
Wonderful story. I believe in reincarnation too. My husband was born in Israel and the Hebrews have always taught reincarnation. It is found in the scriptures. Some just don't see it.
Hello, Nell -- Wonderful story and really makes one think. I believe in reincarnation, there is just too much that is unexplainable in this world. I believe in that "other dimension" and past souls reaching out. But, back to your story, what I really find fascinating is the similarity between the two women, especially at the eyebrows. And, I think if Mary had her mouth closed in her picture, there would be an even larger resemblance.
I will be reading more of your works, Nell. Fascinating stuff, they are!
Very interesting story, Nell!
I am fascinated by all things paranormal. A dear friend of mine, who is a paranormal investigator, and so not put off by such things, had an experience with her own children when they were very young--perhaps 3 or 4 years old.
The children were twins, and one day, they offhandedly remarked "we like you better than our other mommy--she was mean and ugly."
My friend replied with a 'thank you' or some such validating comment. Nothing further was ever mentioned about it by either party.
But for her, it validated that they had recalled a bit of a past life, AND that they had been together as siblings then, too!!
Hi Nell, this is a wonderful story. Someday I will tell my children about this story. We have just started looking into past lives and the reasons why we chose to come back as who we are today. I believe my oldest daughter talks to spirits, guides, or angels. I love the detailed way you tell the story.
What a wonderful story (for want of a better word). I do believe in reincarnation and like Green Lotus said, it's good to see what I personally believe to be proof of this belief. Thanks for sharing x
I can see why you get a rating of 100, Nell. Your Hubs are exceptionally well done. They're so good that I've decided to become a follower. They also deal with a lot of the stuff I'm interested in too.
In this particular Hub you mention Northhamptonshire. I've lived in Hanging Haugton in Northhamptonshire when it was a tiny hamlet of seven or eight homes back in 1942. Was evacuated there from London during the War. Moved to Australia in 1951 and have never been back.
Hi Nell this hub was brilliant. So well laid out and written. I am trying to get round to reading more of your work and I am getting there slowly but surely. Thank you ahain for sharing this hub with us all.I am going to vote it up and bookmark it. Take care Nell.
What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it. How did you come across Jenny's story?
I really enjoyed reading that story
This story was awesome. If mankind weren't so stiff necked we could perform intense studies on this phenomenon. Too many stories are out there for this to be imagination.
I too dreamed of my demise along with two of my children in the old west as a child and pre-teen. After repeating the dream to closed minded adults and dealing with life it has since faded. Wonderful hub.
Amazing! I personally believe we all know a little about our past lives when we are young but it fades away before we can actually communicate it into real life as 'past life'. LOVE that she held on to the memories and the sons reaction when he got off the phone with his 'mother'. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Nell - It is fascinating and inspiring story for sure.
I belive in reincarnation, experienced some memories, but my memories never touched my last incarnation...obviously there is no need for that.
Thank you again for sharing this touching story.
I used to live with a lady who was a psychologist and intuitive. Detectives would visit and review cases with her. I know she solved some cases from personal observations. In regard to "reincarnation," I am perhaps an agnostic. I do know however, two small children who lived about 2 1/2 hours away were brought to her because they kept talking about they died in a car wreck. Bottom line: The facts were checked and verified. There was no "apparent" way the children, or anyone else could have known the information they gave about their "prior" lives... Strange, but true... Thanks for sharing...
Hi Nell! I stumbled on this hub very late. Apparently this hub is almost 9 months old. I'm glad I read this.
I had seen Jane Seymour as Mary Sutton in 'Yesterday's children' many years ago. The movie was a complete tear jerker. I've always believed in reincarnation. There are countless spine chilling anecdotes where people have recalled being someone else in the past life. It sure is intriguing but very harsh on the one who remembers some unfinished business. Thx so much for sharing this beautiful hub.
Jenny/Mary's story reminds me of a very similar situation which led psychologist Brian Weiss into the field of past life regression. Can't remember the name of the book (currently in storage) that he wrote about the woman, but she too found the now-grown children she left behind in a previous life, and like Jenny knew details about their childhood home that she couldn't possibly have known unless she'd lived there.
Fascinating subject!
I loved to read this! It reminds me of a Youtube video of a small boy named James, who had been a WWII pilot in his former life, and he came up with amazing details.
I do believe this is true, thank you so much for writing this Nell!
Charlotte
Hello Nell,
I just stumbled on this hub and i'm fascinated.I have been reading Edgar Cayce's books on reincarnation,i don't know what to believe.I want to believe it's true.I do believe in Karma.anyway,if true,i want to come back as Scarlett and give Rhett a chance to reconsider and come back and take back those nasty last words spoken,"Frankly Ma'am, i don't give a damn" lol Thank's for a very good story. You do it so well.
Cheers
Hi nell rose . What a fabulous story. I have always believed in reincarnation but I am now not sure. I was wondering whether the spirit of mary sutton is speaking through jenny giving her glimpses of her life making her feel like she experienced the life itself. Whatever there is something that happens when we leave here and probably we are not supposed to know . A great hub regards brownlickie
Hi Nell, this is a very intriguing story. You have a knack for finding the most interesting things to write about.
In a few years, it is believed, they will create a machine that will be able to interpret how many people lived, what they did in their lives and what did they say.
There is a possibility, Jenny as a sensitive child, picked up on those vibrations.
Another awesome hub Nell. I have always been fascinated by reincarnation, and though somewhat a sceptic, I am very awe inspired (spelling?) by the lovely ending to this story, with all children reunited.
There are a lot of unexplained phenomena which will always fascinate us, that is until they are explained.
This is a wonderful story, and I absolutely believe in it's truths and I'm very happy for the families reunions. I believe in many things most would probably dismiss, I have some hubs here on ghosts, angels, and afterlife stories. These are based on true events, and I will be writing more of them soon. This is a very inspiring and heartwarming story, wonderfully written, thank you! A.B.
I'm convinced we live many lives and each for a purpose to purify the soul so one day we can join our God in his purest form!Ever since I read the book "jonathon livingston seagull" as a teenager, the idea of reincarnation struck me then.We need to be open up to the possibility. After all isn't it a miracle we are here period? Religion confines us way too much, tells us how and what to think! Thanks for sharing this. What are your thoughts?
This is a fascinating story. I have always been sceptical of reincarnation, but it certainly does make you wonder. I'll have to read more about it. Amazing!
I had heard of this story before it is quite a popular one in the UK. It was nice to re-read it with your take on it though. Thanks
Sarah
Nell; OMG... I am in the process of writing a hub about myself that finally taught me to accept my gift. I too have had past lives that I think about all the time. I love love love England and it's history. I know that I can pick out the house in a moment, walk in as though I had never left. The names Lady Sarah Rawlins and Lady Elizabeth Litchfield I always dream about. Also a young girl at the age of nine that died of pneumonia. She was her dad's favorite and died in the round room. I have searched trust me but without as you stated the funds, I can only go so far. I keep going to Suffolk and Sussex. It is always in the country as well. What do you think?
Very interesting hub! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing. I absolutely love this story. I have always believed in reincarnation. It always seemed so logical to me. Just look at nature and how flowers, leaves and grass dies in the winter and re-born again in spring. It's just so obvious.
I can't imagine how anyone would believe that we could learn all we have to in one lifetime so reincarnation just makes sense. I have seen a few documentaries and read quite a bit in this area but your writing style is the best. I loved reading your article and for over a year people are still commenting. This is testament to the quality of your writing and the excellent subject material. Thank you. Voting you up and awesome! and you now have another follower!
I believe this story, I felt sad when i read the beginning, I'm glad she decided to find her children.
You certainly do know how to tell an intriguing story. I'd love to believe in this, and I almost wish something crazy like this could happen to me. :)
I've read this book. It certainly is an intriguing read. I believe this stuff. My husband passed 5 years ago - only 46 years old. I'm trying to develop my psychic abilities. I have seen him once but I got a fright and he vanished. I read this book a long time before he passed though. Actually I might read it again now that you have reminded me of it. Thanks.
"Same soul, many bodies" as Dr Seuss puts it.
Ive always wondered why God allows some to remember and most to forget.. Interesting read Nell.
i have never discounted the idea of having lived before. i have meet far too many people where the Click was instant and i knew i have met them before/probably in a past life, there is no other explanation to me. wish i could go back and figure who i was or how many times my soul had come back, would be fascinating. Great Hub!
Hi Nell Rose,
I have been taught how to do past life regressions. I have seen too many stories where they are so real and positive in the end to not believe in them. My intuitive nature makes me wonder why more people don't believe. In the bible there are verses I know talking about reincarnation.
Wow. This is a very interesting story. Thanks for sharing it, Nell.
And who knows, really? It could all very well have been real.
"There are more things in heaven and earth ... than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
While being a disbeliever in reincarnation I had a very powerful flashback of a previous life, and it brought up extremely strong feelings of rage about the manner of my death, that lasted for months! I had a name but I couldn't find her when I looked her up.
I'm still skeptical because perhaps I imagined it, but your hub has brought me a little closer to believing.
Maybe I should write about my experience. Feedback might help me to decide.
Even for a sceptic like me this story rang true! Good mystery hub. Don't they look alike?
Thanks Neil for your such amazing article.
I remember a case of an English woman, who when regressed told of a childhood in nineteenth century Australia. She said she remembered being locked in a barn, which she described in detail, including the pattern of the tiles on the floor. She named the location of the barn, and the TV programme investigated and found the place in Australia. The barn was still standing. However, the floor of the barn was covered in concrete and had been for for decades. The producers convinced the farmer to have the floor dug up, which revealed the exact floor tiles, the woman had described, even though no one living had any memory of how the floor used to be.
I must add the story of my own extraordinary experience, which seriously made me question if reincarnation may have some reality. I attended a Spiritualist church and was constantly told that I had a spirit of a writer working with me. I took this with a pinch of salt. I was given the name William, and told that this writer looked very much like me. I was told these things by more than one medium.
Then, one day, my father asked me to research a great uncle of his, by the name of William Sharp. Typing the name on google, I was first presented by the picture of a Willian Sharp, who was a writer from Paisley, which is only a few miles from my family of Sharps. He was a Spiritualist, who believed a spirit wrote automatically through him. Sharp died in 1905. Looking at his photo, I was amazed, because he is the spitting image of myself. I discovered that several of Sharp's life events are very similar to my own.
I then read one of Sharp's fairy tales, and was further amazed, because the outline of the story was almost identical to a fairy tale written by me. I have tried to discover a link between William Sharp and my family, which has a long line of William Sharps, going back centuries. Whether this is all just a set of amazing coincidences, I have no idea, but suspect that it probably is, but it is easy to get carried away when presented by these similarities.
At the age of 12, my brother began remembering my deceased grandfather's life. My brother was born 3 days before my grandfather died of a heartattack. He asked my father where a certain man was, who had a cone-shaped head, who was an acquaintance of my grandfather, and deceased. He would become very upset and said he "wasn't supposed to talk about it" when questioned.
This is a very interesting hub (one of the most interesting I have read in awhile!) I was 'raised' to believe that reincarnation was untrue but over the years I have leaned more and more toward the belief that it is in fact true.
I had a strange experience when I was a kid that I now believe was a result of a latent memory of a previous lifetime as a "Native American" (I really dont like that term) on the Great Plains.
Hi Nell Rose. Love your hubs. I recently had two past life regressions and learned how my current life parallels them. If only everyone could be more open to looking deep within ourselves to learn who we really are instead of getting so caught up in the hecticness of everyday life.
Hi, Nell - this was a beautiful story, how the family was reunited by this "stranger" mother. When one of my sons was about 4 years old, we were walking in an old part of the city and came upon blocks of marble set near the curb. We stopped to look at them. My son said they were for people to use to climb into carriages in the past. He went on for some time, days later, about how it was to live, how people dressed in the late 19th century. I always wondered where he got that stuff and could not help but wonder if he was remembering another life. He used to tell me the stories and start, "before I was born." You never know.....
Very cool story. I believe her, there's too much evidence not to. I'm so glad the children were reunited at last. I'll bet it made a hole in their lives, to lose the brothers and sisters to each other at an early age.
"whether we believe in reincarnation, or not. something extraordinary happened" - I've found this article accidentaly and don't know what to tthink about it... Hard to believe BUT it happend and it's a fact! Where will be my soul in the future? Where are all souls? Many questions and no answers... Do we need answers? Maybe they will not make us happier...
Nell, this is a very interesting hub. I'm not sure I believe in reincarnation but I still found this story fascinating, I wondered if Jenny experienced anything like this again or was her connection only with the Sutton family? Voted up.
Just found this article by accident, and wow, what a strange story! I 'think' I believe in reincarnation; not sure. When she was 3 years old, my 13-year-old granddaughter told me matter-of-factly what her name was in her last life. I was mixing up a batch of cookies at the time and almost dropped the bowl. To the best of my knowledge, she had never heard the theory of reincarnation mentioned. Nell, I have always wanted to go to a hypnotist and have a past-life regression, and I never did. Starting today I am going to put a secret envelope in a hiding place and start putting money in it, a little here and a little there, and save up for a visit to the hypnotist. I will certainly write a hubpage article about it afterwards. Thanks, Nell, well written, voted Up and interesting!
I love this article Nell and have no doubt that we have been here many times before. It is not just because I am from Ireland that the story attracted me but the subject matter is always captivating. I have also tweeted it and will get Xavier add it to our Hypnotherapy daily Newspaper.
Great piece of writing as always.
What an amazing story! I believe there is more out there that we cannot understand. I believe it was reincarnation and there was a purpose with this family. I am in awe with this, thank so much for sharing. :) Thumbs up!
Nell I fell upon this hub of yours and am truly amazed, yet not surprised. Like Green Lotus I am a believer in reincarnation. I know I am from another time, feel it deeply at times, have dreams of past lives. I am often stirred to write the way I do, prompted by an unknown force I call my Muse.
You see Nell, a father and mentor I never had came into my life and changed it when I was but 15 yrs old. He had a huge impact on my future, he passed over in 1992. I always felt his presence and had a graveyard experience with him once visiting his marker, I would never forget.
I truly believe he stands by me as my Muse today and gives me the words I lay down in here. I also had an apparition experience a few years back when I was an over the road highway driver. I write about The Lady in White in a poem I wrote about her. I called it "Graveyard of Lost Souls."
So yes my friend, I am a believer and this fascinating story hits home to me. Simply incredible and rare indeed, but so accurate. Voted UP awesome, interesting and useful...
Wonderful hub Nell, and my opinion is that reincarnation could very realistically exist, but that we are not yet scientifically advanced enough to understand it or how it works yet (in much the same way as 50 years ago we would not have understood Sky TV or Mobile Phones, but they exist now!)

I love this utterly compelling story Nell and you tell it so well. I also believe in reincarnation and an "eastern" view of life after death, but to have an experience like Jenny's is a rare experience of proof. Like you say, whatever you believe, it's heartwarming to know that she was able to reunite Mary's family.
