Picnic Baskets For Those Long Summer Days

I remember it so well. Those long summer days, my dad getting the picnic basket out of the car and throwing down the rug for all of us to sit on. It was great because my mother used to boil eggs, make jam tarts and we would always have loads to drink.

Back then the picnic baskets would be just a basic basket and we would have to add all the cutlery. plates and drinking cups along with the food. These days you can buy picnic baskets with loads of added cool stuff. Such as wine glasses, corkscrew and even salt and pepper sets.

I always remember my dad forgetting to bring the most obvious things with us. My mother used to say, don't forget the paper plates but he always did. I think having a picnic in the middle of a scorching hot day really brings back those memories of childhood.

And its something that seems to have got lost these days. Now most people prefer to get out the barbecue and invite all the neighbors round. I personally think it's a shame because a picnic by the river brings to mind all those old stories we read when we were little. The famous five for example were always talking about picnics with lashings of ginger beer!

The Romance of Food L'Amore!

Do you remember those lovely days back in the fifties and sixties when all the young guys would take their ladies out for a romantic picnic by the river? Boats passing by in a whisper of breeze, birds singing and kids playing in the water.

The buzz of a bumble bee flying by, and the occasional sound of laughter as the romantic man raised his glass and clicked it against hers as they sat down among the strawberries and cream, small sandwiches and iced cakes?

I may not remember them as I was too young, but I have seen the films and Ah bliss! The days were long, the sun was warm but not too hot and they felt as though it would go on forever.

Why not bring back your memories by taking a stroll down by the lake, laying out the red and white table cloth then sitting down to a wonderful afternoon tea?

If you want to bring back the romance then this is the way to go! Now all I need is a nice guy and a picnic basket and I am ready and waiting!

Don't Forget The Kids!

All children love to get out into the fresh air, and lets be honest we can't always afford to take them on long trips or vacations.

They get fed up of staying indoors or even in their gardens, so a picnic is a great way for all the family to get out and about to enjoy the countryside.

We don't always have to take them to theme parks or walk miles just to keep them amused.

A picnic is a good excuse for all the family to get together. Its the best of both worlds.

The adults can sit down talking and eating while the kids can explore the river bank and see the wildlife. Simple yet something to make memories. A sunny day, a picnic basket and lots of laughter. It doesn't get better than that.

Here comes Summer, yeah!
