How to Shrink and Enlarge Your Photos

How frustrating it is to suddenly realise that the camera you bought is so powerful that the photos you take are not compatable with your website. I recently realised just how annoying it can be. In other words your photo is either too large or too small. So what to do? You need to be able to enlarge the photo, but not lose pixelation. When this happens the photo becomes fuzzy and out of focus.

This happened to me recently, and much to my frustration, I realised that by taking photos on my camera phone, I could download them easily, but not on my new camera. I would have carried on using my phone, but the downside was that it was costing me money to send the pictures to my e-mail. I knew that I could download them straight to the PC but even then the photos were not that good.

After spending hour after frustrating hour, trying to download a photo onto a photography site that I use, I realised that other people out there had the same problem. So after looking into it I realised that there were sites that could shrink your photos by subtracting pixels. And enlarge your photos by adding pixels.

1.The first one I tried was www.shrinkpictures.com online. This is quite a good one, if you are anything like me, you do not want to trawl through loads and loads of garble, reading stuff that means absolutely diddly squat. And because there is so much writing in the way, you have no idea what you are supposed to do.

With this site, it will take you straight to the bit that you need. And is self explanatory. Just follow the instructions. I must admit it did work for me, for a time, but I realised that after shrinking a few pictures, it did go wrong sometimes. I think it is okay for just a couple of photos, but if you try and do it for to long, it goes a bit awry. But it does give you a good choice of picture size to choose from. So it is worth having a go.

2. It is the same site as the one above, but on this, you can have your pictures made into Avatar size. This one is only up to two hundred pixels.

3. www.resizemypicture.com is the third on the list, and I have tried this one, unfortunately, it took ages, and I gave up in the end. Maybe it was my computer, so it is worth a try. The only thing I would say about it is that, when you first go into the page, it looks a bit daunting as there is lots of writing all the way down the page, and I did not know where the downloading bit was. And then I looked at the top of the page again, and it was right at the top. Unless you want to read a whole page, don't bother scrolling down, just go for it, and see how you get on.

4. www.resize.it, Is a really good one. What I like about it is it has big pictures that explain exactly what type of photo that you want to shrink. It has shrink portrait, shrink landscape, crop a photo, and advanced photo tools, all in large easy to see and understand pictures. Great for dummys like me! you just click on the picture that you want and hey presto, result. great stuff.

5.Batch photo, is one I looked at but you have to buy it.

Here I would just like to say that there are many that are too difficult, and some you have to buy, some you have to be Einstein, and some that are just plain annoying. We do not want to read tons of stuff, just so at the end we realise that we have to download and install the system, which is something that I tried by mistake, and it took ages. And the end result was that it still confused the heck out of me! So if you do accidentally click on one of those. Don't bother, because I am just going to give you the best site of them all.

6. www.resizeimage.org. Fantastic! that is all I can say really! After going through all the above, some great, some not so great, and some just plain annoying, this one is well worth using. Bookmark it and then you are free to go. It is the simplest layout of the lot. And it works a treat. Very very quick, and if it can downsize my photos, it can downsize anybody's.

It is so so simple. It just has four buttons to click on. Small, medium, large, original. And all you have to do is, go to Options, start over, or crop, it is up to you, and then the page changes to a simple browse and download page.

That is it! It only takes a few minutes. Upload image, and when your photo appears on the page, just click on small, medium or large, large being the best and the most typical for downloading to your site, as even though it says large it is about four inches across and approx. two inches down.

So it fits most web pages. Then just press Save Changes, wait for the funny remark that pops up, and then go to the left side of the page where it says, Current image, click on the blue sign, Download image, where underneath you can see the new size of your photo, and then you will see a box come up, which is the classic save box, and follow the instructions. I find that it is better to save, then close, then click on the Download image again, and bring the box back up, then go to open, and this will bring your gallery picture up, go to the left hand top corner, and click send to gallery. There. Done. And no more tears!
