Tailoring Ideas
The Wedding day is one of the most exciting of our lives. People rush around trying to make sure the flowers arrive on time, others fuss around the bride to make sure she looks beautiful on her big day. But we musn't forget the other important person involved in the wedding. The Groom!
For some reason, relatives and friends always presume the groom will know what to wear, how to wear it, and even more importantly know the exact size or style that will suit him the most. Men tend to wear everyday suits for work or leisure, but there aren't many occasions where they have to dress up in a formal way. This can be quite daunting, especially if your budget doesn't stretch to really expensive clothes.
A wedding itself can be one of the most stressful occasions in your life, and to have the added problem of trying to work out what to wear, or in fact having any idea where to start can scare the most confident of men! If you are lucky enough to have the money to fit yourself out in a suit, then going to a men's tailors is probably the best way to do it.
They will measure you properly, advice you on the type of clothing that will suit your coloring, and of course have the man power to sew up all the little problem area's. Whether it is the pants or trousers, the shirt being to long or the neck too tight, each and every little adjustment can be done, and this is so important. You don't want to end up spending the day pulling down your waistcoat over and over again because it keeps riding up! And what happens if the jacket suddenly decides that it doesn't want to do up at the most crucial part of the wedding ceremony? Don't panic! Here are a few tips that may make your big day worry free!
Trousers
This is the one part of the wedding outfit that men seem to be unsure about when trying them on. Did you know that 9 out of 10 men always go for a size too small? The reason for this is that they presume the only thing they have to measure is the waist band. If it fits, then it must be the right size. Wrong!
There are more to trousers than the waist band. You need to be comfortable around the seat area, and plenty of 'ball room' too! Seriously, this is very important. You have to remember that you will be sitting down for a long time at the wedding reception, and of course dancing the night away all evening. Trouser waistbands tend to be worn too high as well. You have to remember that you are wearing wedding clothes not casual wear. A waistcoat or a jacket will be over the top of the trousers. To lower the waistband, wear a thin belt that will sit on the hips. Another idea is to wear braces. These are adjustable and you will be able to place them exactly in line with your waistcoat.
Jackets
For a man to look good on his wedding day, the jacket that he wears must look sleek and slimming. All depending on the size of the man, either large or slim, it must be adjusted to add shoulder width, and have a small waist.
The best idea is to make the Jacket wider at the shoulders, so even if he is rather large, it will put emphasis on his neck line. The waist should taper in slightly so he can show of his figure and look more in proportion. Always try on a larger size than you are used to. This way the shoulders will look straight instead of slopping. The bigger the Jacket the more that can be taken in at the waist to trim your size. This will work for slim men and the more sturdy of frames.
The sleeve length for the Jacket should sit just above the wrist. approximately one to two inches above should show off the cuff of the shirt. When trying on the whole ensemble, this will show whether the shirt sleeve is too long or slightly too short.
Shirt
I mentioned the length of the shirt sleeve above. Now this is very important. The shirt will be worn underneath a Jacket or waistcoat, so it must be comfortable but not too big or to small. It is best to buy cotton, because silk or any other similar materials will either ride up as you are walking and sitting, or even produce static. The shirt, waistcoat and jacket will become twisted and you will end up feeling and looking a mess!
On the subject of cuffs as I mentioned above, always make sure they are at least one inch longer than the Jacket sleeve. An ideal type of shirt is the double cuff. This will allow the cufflink to pull the material closer, making your shirt rest on the bend of the wrist. You can also buy armbands for the shirt. This will keep the material in check. But of course make sure they are white, or the color of your shirt.
And don't forget the neck! When you try on the shirt, make sure that you can put two of your fingers inside the neck of the shirt when you have the top button done up. The reason for this is, as the day goes on, your neck area will feel uncomfortable if the buttons are too tight. Don't forget, you will be eating at your reception. There's no point in choking or going red in the face because you can't get air to your throat! Little things like this make all the difference!
Waistcoat
A wedding waistcoat should be made from a high quality fabric, either polyester or silk. The groom should try and make sure that it is a match for the bride's outfit and accessorie's. The guests can wear a waistcoat but must always choose another color, so they can be seen to be from the bridal party. The size of the waistcoat should be on the tighter side, so that it fits snugly underneath the jacket and on top of the shirt.
Bow Ties, Ties and Cravats.
There is a great choice of bow ties and cravats. choosing which one suits you is a matter of personal taste, but whichever one you choose, make sure that they are of similar material to the waistcoat. The smartest look is for the cravat or tie to match the color scheme of the waistcoat. Along with other accessories such as handkerchiefs, and cufflinks, each and every part of the Wedding Outfit will make your day go off with a bang, and you will end up as comfortable as you started.
Just adding a few of these touches can save you time, and any last minute worry over whether you look good enough to marry the woman of your dreams.
Just remember, Wedding Suits For Men can look smart and give you the confidence you need to make your wedding day go perfectly. As long as you follow these simple rules.

carrie
You cant really go wrong with a good morning suit. Brides and grooms usually look quite nice. It's the unfortunate bridesmaids that often look dreadful.
Maybe you should write on bridesmaids dresses next Nell.
I remember when my Son got married, all the attention was on the bride, of course my pride was my Son, and i must say that i dressed him with pride. HAHA, Thank's
Cheers
Nell, no wonder you have almost 1600 followers. You always write about relevant matters. I’ve read many articles about the bride and everything concerning her, and now, for the first time in my entire life, about the groom. Even in magazines about weddings I will skip the articles about grooms, as if they are not as important as brides. I guess I should see a psychiatrist? I have a grudge against men and I don’t even know it :))) This is a brilliant and most informative article about wedding suits for men.
well done...I never really thought about the complication of a groom being dressed.
Delightful, as always, now all I need is a groom! Haha! Great job! lily
Oh, Nell Rose, depend on you to come up with such a beautiful take on the 'beauty' of our men! Having just gone through my parents' photos of their beautiful 10:00 a.m. wedding in 1940, I am glad to know I wasn't just drawn to how great and well-dressed my father looked (and he was a tall, dark, good-looking guy!), but now I KNOW he was dressed properly!! Thanks for a great read. You ended it perfectly. I was looking for it at the beginning!
Oh lala Nell, at the risk of sounding obscene, I just adore the first picture of that suit, it is absolutely brilliant.
It's true how grooms are practically ignored during the entire event and given notice to only when the time to say 'I do', comes around but a fine wedding suit could do wonders for attention. The bride may have to fight for the groom, lol.
I think the father of the bride will be getting the attention in our family- he is liable to turn up in slacks and jumper and wonder why he is not popular. I had not thought about the waistcoat and dress matching. I suppose if one was being really cool the bride and groom could match and the bridesmaids and best man could match---- when we have a free moment my eldest daughter and I plan her wedding ( date fixed in OUR minds- just not sorted the proposal out yet) I must tell her this!
I love fashion and I dream about the wedding suits. Very inspiring and I got new motivation to get married soon. Great job, Nell and Vote up!

I am a great fan of morning dress for daytime weddings. It is the most formal level of daytime menswear, and as such it is highly appropriate for any man's wedding day.
